Liverpool Jackpot: HOLD YOUR NERVE AND THINK BIG

The start of Liverpool Biennial’s public art programme for 2008 was marked with the switching on of Liverpool Jackpot - this year’s winter lights - in Kensington, Kirkdale and Garston on November 8th. Liverpool Jackpot has been designed by internationally renowned French artist Franck Scurti, and has been developed in consultation with the local community. The neons - which operate like a fruit machine - show images of food, a body part and a phrase taken from the local press. more

Schoolkids to 'think inside the box'

Liverpool school children are being asked to share their ‘treasure’ to celebrate European Capital of Culture. Pupils across the city will be the first group to take part in Treasures – a mass participation project for 2008 - which invites people to make their own personal treasure box celebrating Liverpool’s cultural identity. The project will start in schools before being rolled out city-wide in early 2008. more

You'll never guess who I had in the front of my cab...

The Liverpool Culture Company and Merseytravel are giving out free information packs – which includes a special quiz made up of 50 questions testing knowledge of Liverpool's history, heritage and culture - to the city's hackney cab drivers to equip them for next year's European Capital of Culture celebrations. This follows on from the art-crash courses offered to cabbies as previously featured. more
