Blackpool Illuminations Design Competition

Blackpool has this week launched a nationwide search for a new design for next year’s Illuminations. The winning designer will receive £3,000 and follow in the footsteps of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who has created a stunning road section for the 2007 display and has agreed to chair the panel of judges in this hunt for fresh talent for 2008.

The only requisite criteria for each feature is that it should stimulate, excite and entertain the audience. Its content can be provocative, topical, whimsical, contemporary, traditional, utilising any theme the designer desires, subject only to the reasonable standards of decency and taste demanded by today’s audiences.

To find out more about project and receive the technical specifications with photographic references email michael.wilcock@blackpool.gov.uk or write to: Michael Wilcock, Blackpool Illuminations Department, Rigby Road East, Blackpool, FY1 5ES.

The closing date is Monday December 3rd and entries will be judged by the panel on December 6th 2007, when a shortlist will be asked to develop their ideas through to the next stage. For further information, please see the attached press release.
